PlayStation 5 Game Box Design Revealed By Sony

KEY POINTS
  • With a slightly darker shade of blue, the new box designs for PlayStation 5 games featured "Spider-Man: Miles Morales"
  • The header for the PS5 case is now also white and black instead of the very blue PS4 cases, matching the design of the PS5 console and controller
  • The game box for the PlayStation 5 doesn’t appear to have any language indicating that you’ll need the PS5 with a disc drive to play games that come in physical boxes
  • In a blog post on Thursday, Sony revealed what the physical boxes for PlayStation 5 games will look like.

Featuring the upcoming “Spider-Man: Miles Morales” as an example, The Verge notes that the game boxes look pretty similar to what we’ve gotten accustomed to seeing with the boxes for the PlayStation 4.

The cases are still blue in contrast to the neon green of Xbox game cases. The shade of blue is slightly darker, however, seemingly matching the blue accents on the PS5 console and controller. The header for the PS5 case is now also white and black instead of the very blue PS4 cases. This also matches what we’ve seen with the PS5 hardware.

Finally revealed during the PlayStation 5 event this past June, the PS5 console and DualSense controller immediately generated conversations online. The sleek white and blue design are starkly different from the all-black look of the standard PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 consoles and controllers that preceded it.

“Spider-Man: Miles Morales” played a prominent role during the same reveal event as a surprise among the many games that were also presented. A veritable sequel of “Marvel’s Spider-Man” on the PS4, the upcoming title will feature Afro-Latino teenager Miles Morales stepping into Peter Parker’s webshooters and swinging around New York City battling supervillains left and right.

Introduced in Marvel Comics in 2011 by creators Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, Miles Morales has soared in popularity since, headlining his own comic book series, joining fellow young heroes in The Champions, and featured as the lead character in the award-winning animated film, “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.”

The game box for the PlayStation 5 doesn’t appear to have any language indicating that you’ll need the PS5 with a disc drive to play games that come in physical boxes. However, if you choose to get the digital-only PS5 when the consoles are released, The Verge points out that you probably aren’t going to be shopping for physical games in the first place.

Other highly anticipated PS5 games from the June launch include “Horizon Forbidden West,” “Resident Evil Village,” “Gran Turismo 7,” “Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart,” and “Grand Theft Auto V.”
